Embarrassing Internet Marketing Mistakes
It’s all too common to start off with internet marketing lacking any real plan. Even those who do have a business background or other related skills soon find that internet marketing is not quite like anything else. When you start out with internet marketing, you find out pretty fast that it’s not like conducting business offline. Selling online requires that you create landing pages and email lists, unlike the more straightforward sales techniques such as phone calls and personal interaction that you may be familiar with offline. When it comes to internet marketing, your lifeblood is traffic; you can get free traffic or pay for it, but you can’t survive without it. For example, there are many ways to advertise online, such as the various pay-per-click services offered by the search engines, but to profit from these you have to take the time to learn how to use them. Though online marketing borrows heavily from direct marketing, the way it is done is clearly different. This, sadly, sets the stage for most people who get into internet marketing to not really know what they are doing and fail at it. There is the temptation to consider how many millions of people are online and then figure that it shouldn’t be that hard to sell something to a good number of them. It’s not quite that easy to sell online, however, and if you want to succeed you have to be willing to put in some effort.
With the sheer volume of information on the net, it’s not hard at all to feel lost. This can very easily cause one to lose focus. Losing your focus makes it very tough to stay your intended course. If you have no target market in your mind and have no idea what you really want to achieve with Internet marketing, you’ll probably jump from one strategy to another. New Internet marketers buy various products that they hope will help them somehow achieve what they always wanted. This produces a costly cycle of buy, read, learn, nothing.
Another often seen beginner mistake is marketing with no defined way to generate traffic. It seems that many newbies think if all they do is build a great site, then the traffic will appear on its own. Many people think that there is a little magic button that says “Get Instant Traffic” and all you have to do is push it to start the flow of visitors. But it does not work like that, and it really does take effort, commitment, and some work.
If you really want to be successful with Internet marketing, then be ready to unlearn a lot of what you’ve already absorbed. Try applying simple techniques you discover, and then make some real profits. This could lead you on the path to your goals.
